PROGRAM:
This year our annual conference will feature Youth experts: Brenda Butler, MD; John Miner, MD; and Christopher Overtree, PhD; and a panel discussion with teenagers.
Brenda Butler, M.D. and John Miner, M.D.
Recognizing the symptoms of mental illness and trauma
Overview: Neurobiological and psychological effects of stress and trauma
Overview: Factors for the successful development of children
Building resilience and protective factors in youth (ages 5 – 22 years)
Intervention strategies for behavioral and emotional challenges
(including rage, temper tantrums, meltdowns, outbursts)
Understanding how school climate plays a role in the psychological development of youth.
Christopher Overtree, Ph.D.
Learning strategies that individuals and institutions can utilize to promote positive climate change where
communication is engaging, powerful, positive and effective.
Understanding the roles that schools can play in building resilience in youth and developing their capacity
for leadership
Introducing Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Choice Theory- Therapeutic techniques for guiding
youth in the midst of crisis
Learning specific techniques for accessing and enhancing motivation in youths, to avoid collisions and
empower them to enhance their own potential.
Panelist discussion with teenagers who have achieved success after intervention
Sharing their personal experience of transformation
Factors which helped them to survive the difficult times
WHEN: Friday, February 1, 2013, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, 7:00 am registration
WHERE: Berkshire Hills Country Club, 500 Benedict Road, Pittsfield, MA 01201\
COST: $30.00 Registration (Fee paid at door increases to $40)
Includes meals and 6.50 credit hours (applications in process)
REGISTRATION: Advance registration and payment are required. Checks and money orders to
be made payable to Berkshire Medical Center.
